Court-Ordered Classes
Changing Families has developed two six-hour classes designed to help those who are embroiled in the struggles
and aftermath of separation, divorce, child custody/visitation litigation or other family court proceedings. As
with all our projects, our goal is to make a difference for the kids. We seek to give parents the tools to remove
kids from the battlefield of divorce.
At present, attendance in this or another class is required by many Family Court judges prior to being granted a final
hearing in the Charleston , South Carolina area whenever there are child custody or visitation issues.
Features of classes include:
- Lively, entertaining video clips related to the issues that parents face
- Small class size to promote discussion and class interaction
- Practical tips to navigate the challenging journey
- Single gender classes for single parents
- Couples classes for stepparents
The classes for single parents help parents answer these questions:
- How can I protect my children?
- How do I deal with all the negative emotions?
- How can I understand the needs of my children?
- Is it possible to co-parent in a way that is healthy for my kids?
- What will my new family look like?
The classes for stepparent couples help couples how to:
- Understand that this marriage is more complex
- Coexist in a “yours, mine and our” household
- Protect their new marriage when dealing with ‘ex’ spouses
- Cooperate with the other families in this new arrangement
- Protect and nurture all the children in the household and make them feel loved and valuable
- Establish a working model of authority in the household

Classes for single parents will be offered in a 6-hour one-time weekend format on a Saturday. The cost is $100.00.
For stepparents, the 6-hour class will be offered for couples with the cost being $200.00 per couple. The stepparent class is typically divided into two Friday evenings.
At present, classes are offered in the Charleston, South Carolina area. If there is enough demand, the Changing Families staff can travel to conduct classes. For registration information, please contact us. Advance registration is required. You may
